SXSW GIS Support

The main GIS Support person will work closely with OSE Staff to prepare for the upcoming Festival Season.

Working with OSE 🎆

  • Work directly with the OSE Manager, Project Coordinator, and all other OSE Staff to ensure you are helping out regarding all GIS Support for their group.

  • Some of the maps are created for other ACE Groups, i.e. the Rainey St Traffic Control Plan for APD. The OSE Manager will coordinate the feedback with the other groups, so make sure you work directly with her so she is always aware of what you are working on.

  • Attend all planning meetings, in person if possible. This will give you face-to-face time with the group, and a better understanding of what their GIS needs are related to the festival.

Planning Meetings 🏢

  • SXSW Planning Meetings

    • Meetings take place weekly at the ACE office at OTC

    • In-person attendance is helpful as many people attend these meetings and it's very difficult to follow who's talking and hear when calling in.

    • As the GIS Support for OSE, attending these meetings will help to know what is going on and to have a better idea of questions to ask and help to provide GIS Support to the OSE Team.

  • City of Austin Internal Transportation Meetings

    • Generally these meetings take place directly after the SXSW Planning Meetings since everyone is already at OTC.

    • Discuss Transportation related planning issues with the group present, etc.

Command Center Preparation 🖥️

  • AGOL Admin Tasks

    • All ATD staff that will be working in the Command Center will need to have an active AGOL account with a User Type of COA User.

      • Check that all staff on the dispatch schedule have active AGOL accounts.

        • If any staff have AGOL accounts with a User Type of COA Viewer, a CTM request needs to be submitted to upgrade those accounts to COA User.

        • If any staff do not have an active AGOL account, notify them that they do not have an account and will need to login to create an account in order to work as a dispatcher.

      • All staff will need to be a member of the COA_Austin_Center_for_Events_Internal Group in AGOL.

    • Internal data is only shared with specific groups within AGOL. Ensure that this data is shared with the following groups:

      • COA Austin Center for Events Internal Group

      • ACD Special Events

      • AFD Prevention

      • APD Special Events

      • EMS Special Events

  • GIS Schedule

    • Create the GIS Support Schedule based on the ROW Dispatcher Schedule

      • Solicit other departments to help fill the time slots since ATD does not have enough people fore 10 days of 3 shifts per day.

      • All GIS Support personnel should have an active AGOL account with the proper privileges.

        • Make sure all are members of the COA_Austin_Center_for_Events_Internal Group in AGOL.

  • SXSW Command Center Team AGOL Account

    • In 2020, a AGOL user account was created for the SXSW Command Center Team

    • This account is managed by the ATD GIS SPOC, therefore they have the username and password information to share with the SXSW Command Center Team.

    • Creating this account will allow the SXSW Command Center Team to have access to internal Maps and data, i.e. Temporary Permits, SXSW Events, Traffic Control Plans, Bars and Restaurants, etc.
